In an instant…

In an instant…a lot can happen.  Ever thought about that?

In an instant…those were the words that Chris Childers began his Facebook post to let all know that his son, Austin, had died from his long battle with Mitochondrial disease.

Three words, one phrase, packed a life long message!

Though we all knew the end was near and the inevitable would occur, it happened, In an instant.  None of us were ready for it.  None of us wanted it to take place. We did not want to lose our friend so quickly.

Flip the coin over, and we can see how those three words, one phrase, can be celebrated.  GOD has a way of doing that. For through Austin’s short, courageous, and impactful life, thousands were blessed to meet him, and his JESUS, In an instant.

It could have been at one of his many hospital stays around the country, speaking to an audience of teenagers, posting Facebook updates on his status, or visiting Austin at home.  Whether the encounter was life-long, once or never in person, all of us experienced the love and joy of CHRIST through this special vessel called Austin.

Through his circumstances, Austin brought GOD’s message of love and left the ball in our court to make a decision.

In an instant, a lot can happen.  Life is birthed and taken away. We can choose to be faithful or be shackled by fear.  With our tongue, we can build someone up or tear them completely down.  We will go one way and not the other. Love can be given or kept. All of the choices we make and the events, whether in or out of our hands, have a final outcome, consequence.

For Austin, the moment he passed from this life, he met JESUS face-to-face and heard HIM say:  “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”  Because he had chosen CHRIST as his LORD and SAVIOR, Austin knew where he would instantly be when this journey concluded.    Safe. Secure. Home.

Just as JESUS will return one day, not knowing the day nor the hour our life will also end.  In an instant it will happen.  Then what?  Ever thought about it?
