Not all memories on Memorial Day bring a smile.
For many, they are reminders of the ones left behind.
Friends and buddies.
Sisters and brothers.
Daughters and sons.
Aunts and uncles.
Wives and husbands.
Moms and dads.
For them, today does not mark the official beginning of summer.
It is not a “regular” holiday.
It is a day of past pain that still lives in the present.
It is a gut wrenching reminder of what freedom really costs.
May we never forget it.
